Kathmandus Casino Set Eyes on Female Tourists

Kathmandu opened its seventh casino, focusing on Indian tourists and women visitors. Casino Shangri-la, located on the Hotel Shangri-la premises, is the latest addition to the chained casinos run by Nepal Recreation Center.

Last month the visitors rose to 50 percent of air arrival, the casino is drawing more Indian tourists. The group is now buzzing over the opening of its eighth casino in Pokhara city. Pokhara city is a popular tourist destination spot, the casino here would be the first outside the capital.

The Casino Shangri-la, Wadhwa focuses on entertainment not on gaming that has the philosophy of "Have the time of your life." The new casino focusses on selling a unique service that caters to women visitors.

Casino Shangri-la has a woman for a CEO and the heads of marketing and sales and human resources are women. Over 60 percent of the staff are women.

Wadhwa said, "With the spending power of the Indian middle class having gone up, Indians are the most sought after tourists today. Every hotel is marketing in India, every tourism agency is setting up offices there."

Wadhwa's marketing strategy involves the Indian middle class up. The Indian tourists tend to spend more according to the survey done. That is why. This new casino is specifically for them.
